Research

The Research Office at the UT School of Dentistry provides support, liaison and guidance for our many research efforts. UTSD excels in several research areas including biomarker discovery, oral carcinogenesis, mucosal immunity, autoimmunity, molecular imaging of cancer, biomaterials, and pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Future expansion of research will  be in craniofacial development.

The location of the School of Dentistry in the Texas Medical Center South Campus provides unparalleled opportunities for collaboration with local, national and international research partners. The integration with the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) provides exceptional resources for planning clinical trials, biostatistics, bioethics, epidemiology, and core facilities for various types of biological assays.  The School of Dentistry occupies a new 300,000 square foot facility with state of the art research facilities.

The UT School of Dentistry has begun to plan for a biobanking facility that will store oral brush biopsies and saliva samples from all patients seen for treatment planning. This will provide a valuable resource for population-based studies.

The Research Office is an instrumental part in coordinating and managing these efforts.
