Commuter Program

UTHouston will accept a maximum of 15 commuter scholars for participation in the 2012 SMDEP Program. Participation will be limited to the greater Houston area. Scholars will be expected to provide their rationale for participation as a commuter and attest to their understanding of policies involved.

Scholar expectations and opportunities include:

• Participation in all SMDEP Scholar activities including the core curriculum courses;  clinical observation experiences; tutor group activities such as developing and experiencing interview and writing personal statements; group projects; field trips to NASA and museums; and related social activities.
• On-time attendance for classes from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM and availability on weekends should their group project teams need to meet.

Scholars should not be employed outside the program or participating in any other summer program concurrent with the SMDEP.

Parking arrangements for commuter scholars will be provided by the program.

Based upon information provided in the Supplemental Application, the institution will select participants for the commuter program. Program decisions are final.
