Yasmine Haddad received her B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Houston and her D.D.S. degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry (UTSD) at Houston. She received her Ph.D. degree in Oral Cancer Biology from the UT- Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston. Dr. Haddad then completed her postdoctoral training in Cancer Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Haddad’s dream was to serve and empower the school that she had graduated from, so she joined the UTSD faculty in 2012. Dr. Haddad is an elected member of the OKU national dental honor society and serves as an advisory board member of the UTSD Alumni Association. Dr. Haddad is a Clinical Assistant Professor in two Departments at UTSD: the Department of General Dentistry & Dental Public Health and the Department of Diagnostic & Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Haddad also serves the office of patient care at UTSD by providing oral health care for the patients of Texas Children Hospital at the newly established offsite clinic in Greenspoint. In addition, Dr. Haddad works as an associate in a private practice every Friday and Saturday. Dr. Haddad takes special pride and honor in the fact that the overwhelming majority of her private practice patients represent Houston’s underserved and indigent population of Medicaid and Chip.
Dr. Haddad teaches Biomedical Sciences, Human Biology, and Clinical Applications to Freshman Dental students. She teaches Interdisciplinary Biological Sciences Review to the Sophomore Dental students. In addition, Dr. Haddad teaches clinical general dentistry to Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Dental students. Dr. Haddad’s excellence in teaching was recognized by her receiving the John Freeman Outstanding Teacher Award.
One of Dr. Haddad’s missions in life is to help eliminate oral cancer. Dr. Haddad recently presented her research findings, which aim to improve the early detection and differential diagnosis of oral cancer, at the American Association of Dental Research National Meeting where she served as an oral session chair. Dr. Haddad also serves on the Oral Cancer Foundation planning committee which organizes free Oral Cancer screening events for the Houston community. In addition, Dr. Haddad conducts educational research that aims at improving dental students’ performance on the national dental boards. Dr. Haddad serves currently on the National Board Patient Management Test Construction Committee.
Dr. Haddad’s unlimited passion for the dental profession is evident through her active membership in the Greater Houston Dental Society (GHDS). Dr. Haddad is a strong advocate of organized dentistry through her service on the GHDS Recruitment & Retention Committee. Dr. Haddad protects and promotes the positive image of the dental profession through her service on the GHDS Media Relations Committee. Also, Dr. Haddad participates in community outreach projects through her service on the GHDS Dental Health Committee. In addition, Dr. Haddad is an active member in the Texas Dental Association Political Committee who strongly believes in protecting the dental profession by strengthening the voice of organized dentistry in the capitol.
