Dr. Saroj Bahl is currently an Associate Professor (with tenure) at the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene-School of Dentistry at the University of Texas-Houston. She teaches basic and applied nutrition courses to dental students and dental hygiene students. She also participates in problem-based learning courses taught to medical students at UT-Medical School. Dr. Bahl has had extensive teaching experience, at both undergraduate and graduate level.
She has received several honors and awards for teaching excellence, including the prestigious John P. McGovern Award (UT-HHSC) more than once. She has been listed in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" more than once. Other National/International listings which include her biographical sketch are "Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care", "Who's Who in America", "The World Who's Who of Women" and "International Who's Who of Professionals" - to name just a few. She was named "Outstanding Dietetic Educator" by Texas Dietetic Association in 1995. She has served as a Board Member for Asian-Pacific American Heritage Association, Indo-American Charity Association, Asian-American Health Coalition American Heart Association and Texas Consortium of Geriatric Education. Dr. Bahl has also served as President of Minority Faculty Association from 1995-1997and again in 2004-2007. Her other accomplishments include several scientific and educational publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as over 400 presentations to professional and community groups in the last 20 years. She was nominated for "CASE" Professor (Carnegie Foundation of Advancement of Science and Education-U.S. National Professors Program) in 1994 and 1995.
She is currently serving as a Board Member of the Houston HIC Prevention Community Planning Group (Has been a Member since 2006). She is also a member of the Work Group for Evidence-Based Guidelines for HIV/AIDS for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her presentations have included several that were related to nutritional management of the HIV infected patient. Dr. Bahl has co-authored a book entitled "Nutritional care of HIV-Positive persons-A Manual for Individuals and their Caregivers: which was published by CARC press. Florida in 1995.
