Dr. Bouquot received his D.D.S. and M.S.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota, with postdoctoral fellowships to the Mayo Clinic and the Royal Dental College in Copenhagen, Denmark as the recipient of a Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society. For almost two decades he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, West Virginia University. During that time, he received West Virginia University's highest teaching award and that University's highest award for service to the humanity. He has been awarded the St. George Medal, the highest award given by the American Cancer Society, for lifetime efforts in cancer control, and he recently was awarded the Bridgeman Distinguished Dentist Award from the WV Dental Association.

He is now Professor and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. He is also an Adjunct Professor of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, and is the Director of Research for a private research center, the Maxillofacial Center for Education and Research. He is the Director of a large, federally certified biopsy service for the dental profession receiving tissue samples from dozens of states. He has been the Dental Director of the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, a Senior Visiting Scientist of the Mayo Clinic, a Special Advisor to the National Institutes of Health, an Honorary Member of Dental Informatics of the University of Göteborg, Sweden, and the Oral Cancer Control Coordinator for the state of West Virginia. He is a Consultant to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. He has been awarded Fellowship in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International, and is on the Scientific Advisory Boards of 2 U.S. corporations and a European pharmaceutical company.

Dr. Bouquot has more than 220 published papers, abstracts and book chapters. His work has been translated into several languages, is often cited in the literature, and has been used by state and national governments to determine oral health policy. He is co-author of the most popular textbook of Oral Pathology, has been a reviewer for more than 17 medical and dental journals, and has been on the editorial boards of two international dental journals. He presents more research and continuing education seminars worldwide than any other oral pathologist, and his two informational websites, including the most popular oral path site receive approximately 7,000,000 hits annually. Recently, the Texas Medical Center gave him the Fleming and Davenport Award for original research.

Dr. Bouquot has been President of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and an Executive Counselor of the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. He has been President of 3 regional dental societies, President many times of his state=s American Cancer Society, a member of the national Board of Directors of the ACS and of the Board of Trustees for the 8-state South Atlantic Division of the ACS. As a member of the ACS national Research Committee he was among those responsible for reviewing and approving more than $90,000,000 in cancer research grants annually.
