Alix is an Instructor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences and a Certified Genetic Counselor. She earned her B.S. in Genetics from the University of Georgia and her Masters in Genetic Counseling from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Her clinical duties include assessing patients in the various Craniofacial Clinics held at Shriner's Hospital for Children and the University of Texas Medical School.  Patients are evaluated for cleft lip with or without cleft palate, isolated cleft palate, craniosynostosis and other craniofacial anomalies, and are then provided recurrence risk and risk counseling to other family members. Additionally, she is available to aid any of the Dental Practitioners in assessing patients with genetic abnormalities in their practices. Alix is also assisting in the development of a genetics curriculum for dental students and residents, teaching genetics to dental students and residents, and will develop clinically related research projects for dental students to enhance the student research program. She is also a faculty member of the UT Genetic Counseling Program, where she serves as a clinical supervisor and instructor.
