Arsene Hanana, a third-year dental student from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, was chosen from hundreds of applicants nationwide to present a research poster at the American Student Dental Association’s annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif. earlier this year.

Hanana presented “CD8aa++ Dendritic Cell on Down Regulation of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Inflammation,” based on his work with a special type of dendritic cell recently discovered by UTSD Professor Yahuan Lou, PhD, and others in collaboration with Professor Nadarajah Vigneswaran, BDS, DrMedDent, DMD, both of the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences.

Hanana’s trip to California was sponsored by the UTSD Student Research Office. He joined a delegation of ASDA Houston-chapter officers from the School of Dentistry also attending the meeting.

Originally from Rwanda, Hanana is now a U.S. citizen and 2009 graduate of the University of Houston, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biological and biophysical sciences, with major focus in biochemistry.
