Sweep! UTSD Alumni Win Texas Dentist of the Year, New Dentist of the Year

Houston general dentist Douglas Bogan, DDS, is the 2013 Texas Dentist of the Year.

The Texas Academy of General Dentistry has named Douglas Bogan, DDS, of Houston as the 2013 Texas Dentist of the Year.

General dentist Douglas W. Bogan, DDS, of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry’s Class of 1973, has been named 2013 Texas Dentist of the Year, and a fellow Houstonian and general dentist, R. Dath Collins, DDS, of the Class of 2006 has been named New Dentist of the Year.  The awards were presented at the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s Lone Star Dental Conference Sept. 26-28 in Austin.

Bogan, who practices with The Dentists at Town & Country Village, grew up in West Texas and earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Texas Tech University before enrolling at UTSD. He has practiced general dentistry in Houston since 1973 and is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and the Greater Houston Dental Society. He is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and serves as trustee from Texas. 

Bogan is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Academy of Dentistry International. He is past president of the UTSD Alumni Association and currently serves on the UTSD Advisory Council and the UTHealth Development Board.

He and his wife, Diane, have two children: Brad, an attorney in San Antonio, and Lacy, a CPA in Denver.

UTSD Class of 2006 graduate Dath Collins, DDS, has been named Texas New Dentist of the Year.

The TAGD’s New Dentist of the Year, Dath Collins, DDS, is a Houston native who earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science at Texas A&M University before enrolling at UTSD. 

Upon graduation from dental school in 2006, he was named outstanding student in esthetics and won awards for prosthodontics, dental anatomy and occlusion, the Dr. James Rout Award (for expertise in making dental restorations), the Gold Foil Award (precise restorations) and the Delta Dental Community Service Award (treating underserved patients.)

He is currently in practice with his father, Ronald Collins, DDS, at Royal Oaks Dentistry in Houston. Ron Collins is a 1971 graduate of UT School of Dentistry and currently serves on the faculty. Dath Collins is a member the ADA, TDA, GHDS and the AGD. He and his wife, Angela, have two children and live in West Houston.
