ADA President to Speak at May 24 Graduation

American Dental Association President Robert Faiella, DMD, MMSc, will be the keynote speaker for the School of Dentistry's graduation ceremony May 24.

The president of the American Dental Association, Robert A. Faiella, DMD, MMSc, will deliver the keynote address at the 2013 graduation ceremony for The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. The event begins at 2 p. m. Friday, May 24 in Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston main campus.

Faiella is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American Academy of Dental Science and the International Team for Implantology.

He heads the nation’s largest dental association, with 157,000 members, and will complete his one-year term at the ADA’s annual session in November. He served a year as president-elect prior to assuming office last fall and has previously held numerous leadership positions at the state and national dental association levels, including president of the Massachusetts Dental Society. He served on the ADA’s Board of Trustees.

Faiella was also chairman and sole director of ADA Business Enterprises, Inc., the ADA’s for-profit subsidiary.

He earned two bachelor degrees from Villanova University, a DMD from Fairleigh Dickenson University School of Dental Medicine and a Master of Medical Science degree from Harvard Medical School. He was also a periodontology postdoctoral fellow at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Faiella resides and practices periodontics in Cape Cod.
