The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston is accepting nominations and applications for the full-time tenure-track position of Chair, Department of General Practice & Dental Public Health at the associate or full professor level. The School of Dentistry seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, and service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to excellence. The Chair is an integral part of the School of Dentistry leadership team and will provide innovative leadership and advocacy in critical areas of pre-doctoral and postdoctoral education, patient care and research. The Chair will provide vision, focus and mentorship to further develop a new, dynamically growing department, and will identify, cultivate and pursue internal and external partnerships that lead to collaborative opportunities. Other duties will include but are not limited to departmental planning and budgeting, staffing and supervision, and departmental representation to the School of Dentistry, the Health Science Center and the community. This position reports to the Dean of the UT School of Dentistry at Houston.
The School of Dentistry is one of six schools in The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and is located on the South Campus of the world’s largest medical center, the Texas Medical Center. This unique environment offers significant resources, an outstanding patient pool and exceptional opportunities for education, patient care and research. The School has eight departments, eight advanced education programs and a Program in Dental Hygiene. In May of 2012, the School of Dentistry moved to a new, state-of-the-art 314,000 square foot full replacement building, including the new Denton A. Cooley, MD and Ralph C. Cooley, DDS University Life Center.
Candidates must be qualified to obtain a license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas or practice under a Faculty License through the School of Dentistry. Requirements for the position include a DDS/DMD or equivalent degree. Advanced training in general dentistry, dental public health, education and/or other certificate/degree, prior teaching experience, and at least five (5) years of clinical practice are preferred. A distinguished record and evidence of dedication and innovation to teaching and research along with a history of academic leadership are also required, with credentials meriting appointment to the rank of associate or full professor on tenure-track. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in UT Dentists, the School’s faculty practice.
