The University of Texas School of Dentistry is currently located at 6515 M.D. Anderson Blvd. in Houston's Texas Medical Center. This facility has been home to the school since 1955, but the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is building a new dental school that will be ready for occupancy by 2012.

UTSD alumna featured on journal cover
University of Texas School of Dentistry Community Outreach Director Margo Melchor, RDH, MEd, is featured in this month’s edition of “Inside Dental Assisting” magazine. Melchor earned her dental hygiene certificate from UT School of Dentistry in 1991, followed by a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene in 2006 and a master’s degree in education in 2009. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Program, and is also national president of the Hispanic Dental Society.
Did you know? UTSD alum chairs A&M regents
Richard Arthur Box, DDS, FACD, of Austin received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1961 and went on to graduate from UT School of Dentistry at Houston in 1966. Governor Rick Perry appointed Box to the Texas A&M Board of Regents effective Dec. 8, 2008, and he was elected to serve a two-year term as chairman of the board on March 24, 2011. His term expires Feb. 1, 2013.
According to the Texas A&M website, Box is a member of the American and Texas Dental Associations, American and Texas Academies of General Dentistry and was recently bestowed the honor of Fellow in the American College of Dentists. He is also a member of the Capitol Area Boy Scouts Board of Directors, Texas A&M Lettermen’s Association, 173rd Airborne Brigade Association and National Guard Association of Texas. He’s a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He also served as commander of the Texas State Guard.
